Fairmont High and Somerset West Golf Club qualify for nationals

A beautiful  Sunday afternoon at Somerset West Golf Club greeted the players participating in the regional qualifying round, for participation in the national high schools and clubs championship, on the 24th April.

Somerset West Golf Club represented by Craig Black, Jason Hale, Luca Mess and Luke Pienaar secured a comfortable 8 shot victory over Durbanville Golf Club ‘B’ (229) and Bellville Golf Club (230). A total of 11 club sides participated. The individual event was won by Janco Maritz (Durbanville’B’) on level par 72 beating Craig Black (Somerset West) on a count out. The Louis Oosthuizen SA Junior Club Teams Championship will take place at Mossel Bay from the 11th to the 13th September.

At the same time the High Schools qualifier took place with Fairmont High School narrowly pipping Reddam Constantia by 4 shots. Fairmont High School was represented by Chad Kim, Connor de Groote, Ian Botha and Joshua Wiese. Curro Durbanville finished 3rd a further 2 shots back. The national High Schools final takes place on the 4th and 5th August at the picturesque East London Golf Club. The individual winner on the day was Ian Botha (Fairmont) on 74, beating the reigning SA Boys U19 champion Deon Germishuys (Strand) on a count-out. Ayden Senger (Curro) finshed 3rd.  A total of 10 high schools participated.
