Playing in his first PAT event this year, Milnerton’s Luca Filippi carded two rounds of 2-under-par 70, total 140 to successfully defend his title at the King David Mowbray Open. His rounds included ten birdies.
Lying just one shot from the leaders after round one, Filippi kept his cool in the hot and windless conditions and finished one shot ahead of Strand’s Deon Germishuys 72-69, total 171.
It was, in fact, almost a year ago, to the day that Luca Filippi won the Mowbray Open with the same score of 4-under-par 140.
Germishuys, who was lying in 6th spot bounced back with the lowest round in the afternoon, 3-under-par 69 to finish in the runner-up spot.
First round leader, Stefan Blommaert battled in the afternoon with some double bogeys to relinquish his lead, and signed for a 4-over-par 148.
Thabang Kutumane, a King David Mowbray member, 74-70, was one of only three players to break par in the afternoon finished in a group of four players, including Michael Sherriff, Altin van der Merwe and Weyers Janse van Rensburg, on level par 144.
An interesting stat for the day – the course yielded twelve eagles for the 36 holes.
The PAT Finals take place on Sunday, 4 December at Bellville Golf Club.
