Fish River Challenge

The magnificent Fish River Sun Country Club in the Eastern Cape hosted an under 13 and under 15 regional tournament known as the ‘Fish River Challenge’, on the 19th and 20th March.

The six provinces that participated were Border, Eastern Province, Free State, Northern Cape, Southern Cape and Western Province.

The under 15 division was contested over 54 holes of stroke-play whilst the under 13 division was played over 45 holes of stroke-play. Teams consisted of six players with the 5 best scores counting towards the team total after each 9 was completed.

The course was in good condition and the weather was somewhat variable, a light breeze early morning becoming progressively stronger.

The under 13 division was won by Western Province by 5 shots.

The individual standings saw Justin Behrens (WP ‘B’) 2nd and 10 year old Caden Chuang (WP ‘A’) 3rd – both excellent efforts.

The under 15 division was totally dominated by Southern Cape, winning by a massive 63 shots. Western Province finished 3rd.

The best finishing Western Province player was Gheran Hattingh on a total of 243 in 7th position, 16 shots behind the leader, whilst Louis Loubser finished in 9th position.

The experience gained by the under 13 players, one as young as 8!, will be invaluable going forward.
