06 Mar 2016 - Primary Schools Golf League launched in Western Province

Primary Schools Golf League launched in Western Province

The inaugural Western Province Golf Union Primary Schools Golf League was launched today, the 4th March. A total of 10 teams participated in perfect golfing conditions at the Old Mutual Golf Club in Pinelands.

A highlight of the day was the hole-in-one scored by 12 year old Gavani Baartman (Atlantis) at the 9th hole – a perfect shot with the flag positioned behind a menacing bunker.

A total of 36 players participated with the team event won by the South African Golf Development River Club chapter on 75 stableford points followed by the Combined Atlantis schools on 67 points. The individual winner was Keanan September (Atlantis) on 29 points, closely followed by Taahir Mallick (SAGDB River Club) on 27.

The format of the day was medal stableford (off scratch) with the best 3 of the 4 scores counting in the team event.

All the players thoroughly enjoyed the course that was in pristine condition. Old Mutual Golf Club is certainly a jewel of short course.

The next WPGU Primary Schools Golf League fixture will take place in April.
