A total of 38 players teed it up at Kuils River Golf Club on Friday, 11 November 2022, in the final senior series of the year.

The course was a spectacle to behold, with diamond cut fairways and greens that dazzled the players on arrival.

Golf was of high quality, with only five shots separating the top five players. The weather conditions were ideally favourable, with a light breeze keeping the players cool, allowing them to take advantage of a birdie frenzy.

Hugo Calitz (Durbanville) finished in T3 with a score of 71 (-1). Calitz recorded birdies on holes 3, 7 and 18 and two bogeys on holes 11 and 13.

It was a see-saw round for Western Province Player, Craig Poulton (KD Mowbray), who recorded an eagle on hole 14, birdies on hole 2, 9 and 17 but unforced errors crept in with four bogeys on hole 5, 6, 10 and 18.

As a result, Poulton missed out on capturing his second win of the season when he failed to make the most of the birdie opportunity on hole 18. His approach shot from 70 meters to the flag took aerial shots over the green, which left him with an extremely difficult up and down.

A duel between former Springbok Ralph Fransman (Somerset West) and Brian Mampies (Royal Cape) decided the championship.

Ralph Fransman (Somerset West) exhibited his class and why he is one of the elite in the game, recording eagles on holes 9 and 18, and two birdies on holes 2 and 8. His 69 was offset by three bogeys on holes 1, 11 and 15.

It was none other than Brian Mampies who ultimately defeated Fransman, as his age worked to his advantage. It was his third victory in six attempts, making his win rate 50%. It was a birdie frenzy for Mampies, who recorded five birdies on holes 2, 9, 10, 14 and 18 and two bogeys on holes 3 and 5.
