The 80 players playing in the CLOVELLY Junior Championship were greeted with a cold windy start but fortunately things improved as the morning wore on.

This was the penultimate event in the “WP Junior Golf Championship Tour” with the WESTLAKE Junior Championship taking place on the 4th October, being the final event.

14-year-old Jaydon Galant (KD Mowbray) made his intentions clear from the very beginning, being 4 under par after 5 holes – birdies at 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th. Further birdies at the 2nd and 9th was offset by 3 bogeys to finish a good morning on 69. Local member, Jan Stals van Rooyen, finished strongly with a fine last 9 of 33 to also finish on 69. Another 69 was recorded by Pearl Valley member Dylan Kayne, who holed out for 2 on the par 4 18th.

At the end of the day, Pascal Gunther from Bryanston Country Club won the tournament on a fine 68 – 6 birdies and drop shots at the 1st and 17th. This was great preparation for the Cape Town Junior Open taking place at the same venue in 2 days time.

Mention must be made of the 71s scored by Christopher Gutuza (KD Mowbray) and Mitch Phigeland (Atlantic Beach Links).
