2024 RONDEBOSCH JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

The 2024 Rondebosch Junior Championship was hosted by Rondebosch Golf Club on Friday, 14 June. The course was in excellent condition, and the players capitalized on favourable weather.

The U/19 division saw a tight contest between the Van der Vyver brothers. Nicholas van der Vyver began with bogeys on holes 3, 6, and 7, ending the front nine at 1 over par 37. He rallied with birdies on holes 13, 16, and 17, finishing with a 1 under par 71. However, it wasn’t enough to overtake his brother Andries van der Vyver. He started strong with birdies on holes 2, 3, and 8, scoring a front nine 33. Andries maintained his form with two birdies and three bogeys on the back nine, carding a 70, the day’s best score, to win the U/19 division.

In the U/15 division, Evan Marais stood out from his peers. He scored a 1-over-par 37 on the front nine, including three bogeys and two birdies. Evan excelled on the back nine, with birdies on holes 3, 5, 9, and 10, culminating in a two-under-par 70. Junkai Zhu, his nearest rival, finished three shots behind.Alwyn Rossouw had a challenging start with a double bogey on the first hole but recovered with birdies on holes 12 and 14. Despite a double bogey on the 16th, he showed exemplary composure, securing a birdie on hole 1. Alwyn finished with a consistent performance, scoring a two-over-par 74, clinching another U/13 A division victory.
