DAN COPEMAN WINS ATLANTIC BEACH LINKS TROPHY!

The Premier Amateur Tour rolled into Atlantic Beach Links for the 9th event of the 2025 season, and a cold winter’s morning greeted a star-studded field eager to improve their positions on the season-long rankings.
Local favourite Mitch Phigeland, representing Atlantic Beach, made an early statement by carding a superb opening round of 67 to take the lead. He held a two-shot advantage over a strong chasing pack that included Henru Walters (Durbanville), Weyers Janse van Rensburg (Milnerton), and fellow Atlantic Beach members Chris Wicks and Chris Strydom.
As conditions deteriorated with wind and rain rolling in, scoring became increasingly difficult. Henru Walters and Andries van der Vyver began to slide down the leaderboard, opening the door for a dramatic finish. Shaun le Roux and Dan Copeman surged late in the day, posting rounds of 67 and 68 respectively to force a playoff.
Both players headed down the 18th once more, but it was Dan Copeman’s accuracy and length that made the difference. A perfectly executed approach shot left him a makable birdie putt, which he calmly converted to secure victory and the 2025 Atlantic Beach Open title.
In the Women’s Division, the ever-consistent Zayaan Hendricks continued her fine form, opening with a strong 75 to take a three-shot lead into the final round. Vicki Traut (Erinvale) mounted a late charge to stay in contention, but it was Zoey Rhoda (King David Mowbray) who mastered the challenging afternoon conditions. Her final-round 76 proved enough to outplay the field and claim a well-deserved victory.
