PIETER COETZEE CLIAMS THE 2026 WESTERN PROVINCE AMATEUR MATCH PLAY TITLE

MATCH PLAY Winner

Pieter Coetzee claims the 2026 Western Province Amateur Match Play Championship and the prestigious Duncan Baxter Cup, defeating Western Province Stroke Play Champion Dan Copeman 4&3 in a high-quality 36-hole final.

Having already secured the Stroke Play Championship, Copeman entered the final as a formidable opponent, but Coetzee maintained control of the contest from the outset. The final was characterized by consistent ball striking, disciplined course management, and impressive composure from Coetzee, who ensured that Copeman was never able to establish the lead.

The morning 18 holes saw Coetzee build a solid advantage, with both players producing quality golf in the demanding match-play format. Copeman remained within contention, but Coetzee continued to apply pressure and carried his advantage into the afternoon session.

As the final progressed, Coetzee’s consistency proved decisive. Despite Copeman’s efforts to fight his way back into the match, Coetzee remained in control and never surrendered the momentum he had established earlier in the day.

Coetzee eventually closed out the championship on the 33rd hole, securing a 4&3 victory after 33 holes. His performance was a testament to his composure, determination, and ability to deliver when the pressure was at its highest.

Coetzee adds the Duncan Baxter Cup to his list of achievements and becomes the 2026 Western Province Amateur Match Play Champion.
