ANDREW GEORGIOU SECURES THE DURBANVILLE OPEN
Ninety players competed at the Durbanville Open, the second event of the Premier Amateur Tour 2024. It was an ideal climate with overcast skies and no prevailing wind to take advantage of birdie opportunities.
One of the highlights of the day was Idrees Saban (Royal Cape), who opened his 2024 campaign with an impressive 31 (-5). The lead after Round 1 was shared by Josh Daniels (Durbanville), Wayne Melle (Rondebosch) and Jungwi Lee (Royal Cape).
The second round was a tuck and war between the heavyweights.
Andrew Georgiou (Erinvale) posted six birdies in his last eight holes to finish his campaign on 135 (-9), three shots better than his nearest competitor.
Wayne Melle (Rondebosch) and Jungwi Lee (Royal Cape) tied for second place on 138 (-6). Jungwi led at one point (-8), but ended his challenge for the title with two bogeys in his final three holes.
After the first round, Vicki Traut (Erinvale) and Stephanie Kiefer (Germany) tied for the lead with rounds of 75 (+3).
Odette Booysen (Royal Cape) produced a remarkable performance during her second round, shooting two under par (70) to win the women’s section by count out over Germamy’s Stephanie Kiefer.
Congratulations to all the winners.
