The 2025 junior golf season continued with an exciting day at the Bellville Junior Championship on Sunday, 5 January. The challenging layout of the course provided plenty of drama, but it was Ben Smuts who emerged as the standout performer, claiming victory with a solid 3-under par 69.

Smuts’ round was marked by impressive consistency and some timely birdies. He carded five birdies on holes 2, 3, 4, 8, and 17. While a couple of bogeys on holes 9 and 18 kept things interesting, they did little to slow his charge to the top of the leaderboard. He finished one shot ahead of Nicholas Schrieder, Booye Walters, and Taite Sauls, all of whom finished at 2-under par 70.

In the U/15 division, Joel Neethling displayed resilience after a tough start. Struggling to a 6-over par 42 on his back nine, Neethling showed his determination and skill by posting a 3-under par 33 on the front nine. His final score of 75 earned him a hard-fought 1-shot victory over Zach Potgieter.

In the U/13 division, Louw Schoeman, a Bellville member, showcased his familiarity with the course by securing a win with a steady 39-39 for a total of 78. His performance earned him a 1-shot victory over the competition, further solidifying his prowess on his home turf.
