The 2024 Women’s Mid-Am & Senior Championship, hosted by Milnerton Golf Club, was a spectacular event that brought together some of the finest amateur female golfers. The course offered stunning views of Table Mountain and Lion’s Head, providing a picturesque backdrop as players tackled the challenging 36-hole event.
The course setup with reachable pin positions and calm weather conditions promised plenty of scoring opportunities for competitors, provided they could keep their ball in play.
Mid-Am Championship Division:
After the first 18 holes, Hayley Davis from Royal Cape Golf Club set the pace with an impressive even-par round of 72, asserting her dominance in the Mid-Am Championship Division. Her steady play and strategic approach were evident as she navigated the course with precision.
Senior Championship Division:
In the Senior Championship, Candice Woodbridge from Atlantic Beach Links led the field after the first round.
Dramatic conclusion to the Senior Championship:
The final round saw Beverley Button (Metropolitan) charging up the leaderboard. Her commendable performance tied her with Candice Woodbridge after 36 holes, leading to a sudden-death playoff to decide the champion. Beverley’s tee shot on the first playoff hole gave her a clear advantage. Candice’s struggle in the rough made par a daunting task. With equanimity, Beverley secured par and clinched the Senior Championship title.
Hayley Davis’ victory:
In the Mid-Am Championship Division, Hayley Davis continued her solid performance in the final round, carding a 5-over-par 77. This effort was enough to secure a three-shot victory over Vicki Traut from Erinvale, cementing Hayley’s status as Mid-Am Champion.
Silver Division Highlights:
The Silver Division offered its own drama and excitement. Natasha Murray from King David Mowbray and local favourite Megan de Vries were tied after the first round. However, Megan’s intimate knowledge of the course proved decisive as she delivered a stellar performance in the final round. She won the Mid-Am Silver Division title by ten shots.
Senior Silver Division Comeback:
Leonie Swart of Durbanville made a remarkable comeback in the Senior Silver Division. Following a challenging first round that placed her 11 shots behind Renske Snyman from Atlantic Beach, Leonie staged a remarkable comeback in the final round. She overtook Renske by a single shot to secure the win.
