BOBBI BROWN DOES THE DOUBLE AT THE WP WOMEN’S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP!

The 2025 WP Women’s Amateur Championship at Durbanville Golf Club was a spectacle of skill and intensity, with perfect weather conditions setting the stage for exciting scoring opportunities. The Divisions were filled with fierce competition as players battled it out for the prestigious titles.

Day 1 – Sunday, 16 March

From the very start, Bobbi Brown (Steenberg) made her intentions clear, delivering a stunning opening round score of 69, followed by an impressive 67. Closest challenger Charlotte Millard (Killarney) posted rounds of 72 and 75, but Bobbi surged ahead with a commanding 9-shot lead as they headed into match play.

The Silver Division saw fierce competition as Christan Booysen held a slender 1-shot lead over Durbanville local Leonie Swart, with Melinda Norris from Kuilsriver and Natasha Murray just two shots back. Following in the footsteps of her sister Odette, who triumphed in the Championship Division Stroke Play in 2024, Christan held her nerve and secured a 3-shot victory over Melinda.

Day 2 – Monday, 17 March

Monday brought more drama as the Bronze Division embarked on their 18-hole Stroke Play and Match Play qualifier. Durbanville locals Michele Petty, Rosa-Linda Wessels, and Joanne van Rooyen all fought for their shot at glory. Joanne took an early lead and never looked back, ultimately claiming the Bronze Division trophy with a 3 shot victory.

Meanwhile, the Championship & Silver Division Match Play quarterfinals unfolded with intensity. Bobbi dominated Maegan Webster from Magalies Park with a commanding 6&5 win, while Charlotte Millard, Odette Booysen, and Olivia Wood all advanced to the semifinals. Bobbi faced Olivia in a thrilling match and emerged victorious with a 3&2 win, while Charlotte defeated Odette 5&4. The stage was set for an exhilarating final between Bobbi and Charlotte.

In the Championship Flight Division, Lee-Ann van der Merwe defeated Kamaya Moodliar, while Jaden Visagie and Sveva Yates went all the way to the 19th hole to determine a winner, with Jaden edging out Sveva. Jaden would face Lee-Ann in the final.

In the Silver Division, Leonie Swart, Tyra Booysen, Melinda Norris, and Natasha Murray won their matches to make it to the semifinals. Melinda emerged victorious in a nail-biting 2&1 win over Natasha, while Tyra and Leonie went the distance, needing 21 holes to decide a winner. Leonie triumphed and would face Melinda in the final.

Day 3 – The Final Showdown

The final day of the tournament arrived with the promise of high drama. The course was in perfect condition, with no wind and warm temperatures providing ideal scoring conditions.

In the Bronze Division, Joanne van Rooyen claimed a 3&1 victory over Rosa-Linda Wessels to secure both the Stroke Play and Match Play trophies—a remarkable double!

The Silver Division proved to be a nail-biter as Leonie Swart pulled off an incredible 1-up win on the 18th hole to claim the Match Play trophy, capping off an unforgettable performance.

The Championship Flight matches were nothing short of spectacular. Jaden Visagie and Lee-Ann van der Merwe were tied after 18 holes, forcing the match to extra holes. Jaden would sink a long putt on the 20th hole to claim the title in dramatic fashion.

Finally, all eyes were on the showdown between Bobbi Brown and Charlotte Millard. After 18 holes, the match was tied, and extra holes would be needed to determine the winner. Bobbi played a masterful approach shot from the left-hand rough, leaving herself a 7-foot putt for birdie. Charlotte’s longer approach came up short, and with nerves of steel, Bobbi sank her putt to secure the victory and clinch the ultimate double title!
