Durbanville Golf Club hosted the Anton Bezuidenhout Junior Championship on Friday, 10 January 2025, and the players were well-prepared for the challenges of the 5th junior tournament of the year. The tough conditions of Durbanville tested the young golfers, but Boston Franks showed impressive composure to claim the championship.

Boston Franks and Tristan Boise were tied at the top of the leaderboard, each posting a score of two over par 74. Boston’s round included a steady front nine, where he played at level par with one birdie and one bogey. He added another birdie on the 11th hole but struggled towards the end with three bogeys on the last four holes. Tristan made 3 birdies, 3 bogeys, and 3 pars on the front nine, which kept things interesting. However, he too faced difficulties on the back nine, finishing with bogeys on the 17th and 18th holes.

With the scores tied, the two players headed to a playoff, where Boston Franks held his nerve and secured the win on the very first playoff hole.

In the U/15 division, Codi Ruiters and Zach Potgieter were tied at three over par 75. Zach’s front nine included 3 bogeys and one birdie for a score of 38. Despite a challenging back nine that saw a double bogey and a bogey, Zach recovered with two birdies, finishing with a total of 75.

Codi had a rough start with 5 bogeys in his first 6 holes, but he showed resilience, making a birdie on hole 9 to go out with 40. The back nine was where Codi came to life as he made an eagle on hole 11, a birdie on hole 13, and fought through two more bogeys to finish with a total of 75. Codi won the U/15 division on a count-out with a better back nine performance.

In the U/13 division, Durbanville members Nicholas Jansen van Rensburg and Christian Swanepoel also finished tied at three over par 75. Christian’s round was marked by 3 birdies and 6 bogeys, while Nicholas had 2 birdies and 5 bogeys. In the end, it was Nicholas who triumphed on a count-out with the better back nine.
