CAMERON JOHNSTON IS BACK IN THE WINNERS’ CIRLE AT KING DAVID MOWBRAY SENIOR SERIES!
Having been subjected to a month of heavy rainfall, King David Mowbray golf course was in pristine condition, setting the stage for what promised to be a spectacular showdown.
Cameron Johnston (Milnerton) entered the tournament as the favourite. Johnston had the upper hand over his competitors on a track he is very familiar with. He started strong with a 4-under-par front nine. He birdied holes 1, 2, 6 and 7. A birdie on hole 10, a solo bogey on hole 11, and seven consecutive pars earned him a 68 (-4).
Greg Woodbridge (AB Links), ranked number one on the SA Senior Order of Merit, was one stroke behind after nine holes posting a 33 (3 under par). Despite bogeys on holes 13 and 17, Woodbridge bounced back with birdies on holes 14 and 18, but too late to tie Johnston. Woodbridge finished with a score of 69 (-3).
There was a heated exchange between the two players on the back nine as the competition heated up. In the final stretch, only one shot separated them. Cameron clinched the King David Mowbray Senior Series title.
The winner of the Super Senior category was Henry Trevena from Royal Cape with a score of 70.
Local knowledge proved useful as Paul Slater (King David Mowbray) won the Stableford section by three points over Johan Rothman.
