CHRIS STRYDOM SEALS THE DEAL AT MILNERTON OPEN

Winter has arrived in Cape Town, bringing with it the characteristic rain and chill, as players teed off under grey skies for the 36-hole Milnerton Open.
Gideon van der Vyver of Strand set the early pace with an impressive 2-under-par 70, claiming the clubhouse lead after Round 1. Hot on his heels were local favourites Wesley du Plessis and Deacon Rudolph, along with Durbanville’s Adrian Ford, all trailing by a single stroke.
As the day wore on, the conditions worsened with colder temperatures and an increasingly brisk breeze—but that didn’t stop a late charge from several contenders. Philip Taberer and Chris Strydom rose to the challenge, surging past the first-round leaders. Roux Burger and Booye Walters also made strong bids to climb the leaderboard.
A composed and confident final round of 68 from Chris Strydom secured him the Milnerton Open Trophy with a two-shot victory, while Philip Taberer’s solid 69 earned him second place.
In the Women’s Division, Zayaan Hendricks of Atlantic Beach made a commanding statement early with a stellar opening round of 69, giving her a 10-shot cushion going into the final round. Jaden Visagie of King David Mowbray overtook Royal Cape’s Kaitlyn van de Vyver to secure second place. Ultimately, Hendricks extended her lead, sealing a dominant 11-shot victory.
