Sunday, 8 September 2024 – The notorious south-easter made scoring conditions difficult at the Atlantic Beach Links.

The competitors had to put on their strategic thinking caps to navigate their way through the carved fynbos.

Conrick Lucas held his ground after a difficult start. He carded a double bogey on the 2nd hole, a bogey on the 3rd, and a triple bogey on the 4th. This put him 6 over par after the first four holes. A birdie on the 9th hole helped him finish the front nine with 41. The back nine was a deft combination of finesse and control. He posted only two bogeys and one birdie on hole 15 for a one-over-par 37. His 78 emerged as the day’s lowest, clinching the tournament win by a three-shot margin—a significant feat given the tough conditions.

The U/15 division saw a close contest between Tyrese Smart and Codi Ruiters. Codi’s rounds of 43 and 40, marred by a triple bogey and two double bogeys, left an opening for Tyrese. Tyrese posted an 82 to clinch the U/15 division by one stroke. He recorded a 44 on the outward nine and an impressive 38 on the return, securing another divisional win.

Damian Zervas showed his potential as a future star by winning the U/13 division title. He beat Christian Swanepoel and Theo Strydom by one stroke.

Despite the adverse weather and challenging course layout, the event was marked by excellent golf and abundant smiles. Heartfelt thanks are extended to Atlantic Beach Links for hosting the junior championship; their dedication to promoting junior golf is evident in the tournament’s success.
