The opening round saw Gerard Hartman make an impressive start, carding a seven-under-par 65, establishing himself among the early leaders. Devon Valentine also began strongly with a five-under-par 67, while Johndre Ludick opened with a three-under-par 69. Dan Copeman recorded a two-under-par 70, while Stefan Jacobs finished his opening round with a one-under-par 71, keeping himself within reach of the leaders and setting the foundation for what would become a highly competitive championship.

The second round saw the leaderboard begin to take shape, with Dan Copeman producing one of the standout performances of the championship. His superb eight-under-par 64 moved him firmly into contention, while Devon Valentine continued his strong form with a six-under-par 66. Stefan Jacobs also made steady progress with a five-under-par 67, and Ivan Verster improved from his opening round with a four-under-par 68. With several players separated by only a handful of shots, the championship remained wide open heading into the latter stages.

The third round saw Ivan Verster make a significant move with an excellent six-under-par 66, while Gerard Hartman matched that score to remain firmly in contention. Copeman continued to demonstrate his consistency with a five-under-par 67, and Stefan Jacobs remained within striking distance after carding a four-under-par 68. Devon Valentine recorded an even-par 70, while Johndre Ludick posted a one-under-par 71. Going into the final round, the leaderboard remained tightly contested, with several players still capable of challenging for the championship.

The final round produced an exciting conclusion, with the leading players maintaining their composure under pressure. Stefan Jacobs delivered one of the best rounds of the day, firing a six-under-par 66 to finish strongly. Ivan Verster also produced an impressive five-under-par 67, while Dan Copeman remained composed at the top of the leaderboard, carding a three-under-par 69 to complete an outstanding championship performance.

Copeman, representing King David Mowbray Golf Club, finished on an impressive 18-under-par 270, following rounds of 70 (-2), 64 (-8), 67 (-5) and 69 (-3). His exceptional scoring and consistency across all four rounds earned him a deserved victory and the 2026 Western Province Amateur Championship stroke play title (Dowie Dunn Memorial Trophy). Stefan Jacobs of Randpark Golf Club finished runner-up on 16-under-par 272, with rounds of 71 (-1), 67 (-5), 68 (-4) and 66 (-6). Ivan Verster and Devon Valentine, both representing George Golf Club, shared third place on 15-under-par 273. Verster recorded rounds of 72 (E), 68 (-4), 66 (-6) and 67 (-5), while Valentine posted 67 (-5), 66 (-6), 70 (-2) and 70 (-2).

Johndre Ludick of Humewood Golf Club and Gerard Hartman of Stellenbosch Golf Club shared fifth place on 12-under-par 276. Ludick recorded rounds of 69 (-3), 70 (-2), 71 (-1) and 66 (-6), while Hartman finished with rounds of 65 (-7), 73 (+1), 66 (-6) and 72 (E).

The 2026 Western Province Amateur Championship provided an excellent showcase of the depth and quality of South African amateur golf. Westlake Golf Club proved to be a worthy championship venue, with its par-72 layout rewarding players who combined disciplined course management with quality shot-making.
