Dylan Kayne (Pearl Valley) – Champion

17th July – Despite a lengthy delay, caused by thick mist, the MILNERTON Junior Championship, saw a full field enjoy a well-presented course in windless conditions – as evidenced by the scores on the day.

The first 12 players all recorded 75 gross or better.

17-year-old Pearl Valley member, Dylan Kayne, put in a highly polished performance – a remarkable gross 65 that included 7 birdies. Dylan played the 1st nine in 33 strokes – birdies at the par 3 5th, par 5 6th and the par 5 8th. The 2nd nine started with a birdie at the par 4 12th and a further 3 birdies coming home saw him return that fine 65.

Boston Franks (Steenberg) also had 7 birdies but bogeys at the 4th, 7th and 11th saw him post a satisfactory 68. Mitch Phigeland (Atlantic Beach Links) and the in-form Taahir Mallick (Rondebosch) finished with 69s. A disappointing double drop at the par 4 9th stopped Taahir’s momentum after a run of 3 birdies. Another good effort on the day was the one under par 71 recorded by Adam Johnston (KD Mowbray).

Other noteworthy results were the B division winner, Jethon Williams (Atlantis), on gross 82, the C division victor was local member Keenan Musamba on 38 points. The U13s was as usual a tightly fought affair with Joel Neethling (Bellville) taking the U13A title on an 81 gross (counting out Codi Ruiters with the same score) whilst the U13B winner was Amina Hendricks (Atlantic Beach Links) on an impressive 41 Stableford points.

The next WP Junior Golf event is the popular ERINVALE Junior Championship on Sunday the 6th of August.
