Taylor, Agherdien and Saaiman to guide SAGA

PORT ELIZABETH, 21 February 2017 – The South African Golf Association, in support of GolfRSA, will be guided by 57 years of experience in golf administration after the three office bearers for 2017-2018 were elected on Tuesday.

Geoff Taylor was appointed President, Naadir Agherdien elected to the position of the Senior Vice-President, and Martin Saaiman as the Junior Vice-President at the Annual General Meeting held during the Sanlam South African Amateur Championship at Humewood Golf Club.

Taylor and Agherdien – both past presidents of Western Province Golf Union – has served the golfing community for 21 and 16 years respectively, while Saaiman has served the last 10 of his 20 years in golf administration at Ekurhuleni Golf Union.

Taylor, 54, is the managing director of an IT consulting company based in Cape Town. He has served on the South African Golf Association executive committee since 2010.

Agherdien, 54, is the head of IT Strategy and Governance at Sanlam, and 55-year-old Saaiman is the human resources manager for the South African Police Services in Benoni. Agherdien has served on the South African Golf Association executive committee for nine years and Saaiman 10 years.

“We are very pleased that the team that started the landscape change in amateur golf earned the trust and approval from the South African Golf Association executive committee and that we are able to consolidate and accelerate the work we started with GolfRSA in June 2015,” said Taylor.

GolfRSA chief executive Grant Hepburn welcomed the result of the election.

“We have travelled a long road in terms of the establishment of GolfRSA and I welcome the appointments of Geoff, Naadir and Martin’s,” Hepburn said. “There is a wonderful rapport and understanding within this unit and the board of directors will be delighted to continue this relationship going forward.

“I would also like to extend my appreciation to the South African Golf Association national executive for their belief and support in the fledging organisation GolfRSA.”
