The BELLVILLE Junior Championship – 13 January 2023

The warm weather continued for the 4th and 5th tournaments of the 2023 junior calendar. The tournaments were again well supported with exceptional golf being played.

Jack Buchanan (Milnerton) left everyone in a tussle for second after firing a 7-under par 65 despite having made his only bogey of the round on the par 5 3rd hole. With 33 strokes on the first nine, Jack finished in 32 strokes. Jack recorded birdies on three of the par 5s and five of the par 4s. The win comes just days after Jack finished runner up in the Golfrsa NOMADS Inland NOoM tournament played at ERPM Golf Club – 70 74 70=214. A respectable 69 earned Craig Jacobs (Atlantic Beach Links) 2nd place on the leaderboard, followed by a 71 for Kieran Urquhart (Westlake).

A stellar performance from Evan Marais (Clovelly) enabled him to win the U13A division on 71, while Louw Schoeman (Bellville) won the U13B division on 36 points. Chris Nimb (Erinvale) won the B division with a steady 80, and Jethon Williams (Atlantis) won the C division with 41 points.

Twelve-year-old Evan Marais’ round of 71 in the under-13 division included four birdies and three bogeys.

The highlight of the day was the hole-in-one that was recorded by Anne-Isabel Scheltema (Devonvale) at the par 3 12th hole. This was her first hole-in-one.
