JOSH DANIELS EMERGED VICTORIOUS AT THE SOMERSET WEST JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP, SWEEPING THE COMPETITION CLEAN
Somerset West’s Junior Championship took place on Friday, 28 June 2024, attracting a full field of 90 competitors. The U/19 division saw a tight contest between four players. Andries van der Vyver, Nicolas van der Vyver, and Bjorn Nord all finished with 2 under par 70 scores. However, Josh Daniels stole the show. The Durbanville member birdied holes 3, 4, 8, and 10. Despite a setback with two bogeys on the 11th, he recovered with a birdie on the 12th. His impressive 4 under par 68 secured him the U/19 title by two shots.
In the U/15 division, Junkai Zhu dominated the field, signalling his potential as a future star. He posted 5 birdies and a single bogey for a front nine of 32, followed by two additional birdies on the back nine. This culminated in a 6-under-par 66 and an eight-shot triumph.
Alwyn Rossouw made his mark in the U/13 division with a score of 1 over par 73. Consecutive birdies on holes 15 and 16 ensured a three-shot victory over the runner-up, marking another consistent and top-tier performance by Alwyn.
