27th August – A cold south-easterly wind tested the players to the utmost at the final 2023 Clovelly Junior Winter Series event for the current season – these events are to promote golf amongst the Under 13 and Under 15 age groups.

The Clovelly Junior Winter Series was a club initiative that started back in 2018.

The Under 15 age group saw 13-year-old Junkai Zhu (Bellville) finish on top with a 77 gross. An indifferent start, a double bogey 6 on the 1st hole, and then followed some steady golf culminating with a fine birdie 2, at the testing 16th hole, this being a stand-out highlight.

Runner up Nicholas Schrieder (Steenberg) started impressively with birdies at the 1st and 3rd holes but a double bogey 6 at the 4th hole cancelled the splendid start. In the end Nicholas finished 1 shot back on 78. Cleo Delport (Somerset West) was a clear winner in the under 15B division, an impressive 34 stableford points – a clear 6 shots ahead of runner up Pierce Beaulieu (Westlake).

In the Under 13 division the in-form Luke Jacobs (Royal Cape) finished on 86 – a respectable 3 over after 9 but a tough front 9 saw him eventually home. Keaton Filander (Strand) finished on 89. The Under 13B division was won by the fast improving 9-year-old, Zach Neethling (Rondebosch), by a clear 8 points – a well-played 37 points. Runner-up was Sergio Dowrie (Kuils River) on 29 points.
