2026 Western Province Closed Championship

The 2026 Western Province Closed Championship was successfully held at King David Mowbray Golf Club, where players enjoyed beautiful weather and excellent course conditions throughout the day. A strong field of 78 players competed over 36 holes, producing an exciting championship and some outstanding scoring across both rounds.

Round One saw Wayne Melle (Rondebosch) and Bjorn Nord (Milnerton) set the early pace, each carding an excellent 2-under-par 70 to share the lead at the halfway stage. They were closely followed by Boston Franks (Westlake) on 71, with several other players remaining within striking distance heading into the final round.

The final round belonged to Nicholas Thompson (Westlake), who produced a magnificent 7-under-par 65—the lowest round of the championship and the Round of the Day. His exceptional closing round saw him climb the leaderboard to finish on 5-under-par 139, securing the 2026 Western Province Closed Championship title. Taahir Mallick (Mallick) also delivered one of the standout performances of the afternoon, carding a superb 66 to move into a share of third place.

The championship concluded with Nicholas Thompson being crowned the 2026 Western Province Closed Champion on 139 (-5). Boston Franks claimed runner-up honours on 141 (-3) after rounds of 71 and 70, while Taahir Mallick, Daniel Copeman, and Naasir Khota shared third place on 142 (-2). Mallick finished with rounds of 76 and 66, while Copeman and Khota both signed for rounds of 74 and 68.

Senior Division:

Dave Barnard (Milnerton) claimed the title after rounds of 72 and 69 to finish on 3-under-par 141. Weyers Janse van Rensburg (Milnerton) secured second place on 1-under-par 143 with rounds of 73 and 70, while Ralph Fransman (Somerset West) finished third on even-par 144 after carding rounds of 71 and 73.

Women Division:

Isabella Williams (Clovelly) produce two consistent rounds of 76 and 78 to claim the title on 10-over-par 154. Odette Booysen (Westlake) finished as runner-up after rounds of 78 and 78, ending on 12-over-par 156, while Zoey Rhoda (KD Mowbray) secured third place with rounds of 82 and 78, finishing on 16-over-par 160
