WP Amateur Match Play Championship – Milnerton Links

Luca Filippi will need to defeat SA’s No. 1 golfer, Wilco Nienaber in tomorrow’s 36-hole final to win the WP Amateur Match Play Championship at the Milnerton Links.

It will be Filippi’s third year of trying to lift the trophy.  He was defeated last year at Westlake by Kyle McClatchie 4/3, and in 2016 he lost out to Jovan Rebula 2/1.

Filippi’s route to the final:  a first round win over Christian Burke 2/1; he beat Chris Woollam 3/2; was too strong for Hennie O’Kennedy 3/2, and despatched Gregory Mckay in the semi-final, 3/2.

Or can SA’s No.1 Wilco Nienaber do the ‘Double’?

Not since 2012, Justin Turner, and in 2013 Christiaan Bezuidenhout, has there been a double winner at the WP Amateur Championships.

Nienaber’s wins included:  Brandon Gildenhuys 2/1 in the first round; Otto van Buynder 3/1; came back from 3 down to beat Luan Boshoff, and in the semi-finals WP stalwart, Cameron Johnston 4/3.
