The Kuils River Open was the third event on the Premier Amateur Tour schedule.

From the outset, the players were greeted with warm conditions, reaching a high of 35 degrees. The course conditions were outstanding, and the favorable hole locations would certainly provide the 94 players with ample scoring opportunities.

In the Men’s Open Section, the top eight players all finished under par. A bogey-free 65 (-7) by Mitch Phigeland (AB Links) with birdies on holes 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 14 and 18 enabled him to hold the clubhouse lead before Shaun le Roux (Westlake) birdied holes 17th and 18th to tie Mitch and force a playoff. Shaun’s round was equally impressive with no blemish on his scorecard. In addition to his eagle on hole 2, he made birdies on holes 6, 8, 14, 17 and 18.

On hole 18, Mitch prevailed in an empathic play-off victory over Shaun after only one hole. As a result, Mitch is crowned Kuils River Open Champion.

The Men’s Medal Stableford tournament was also highly competitive. Joel Neethling (Rondebosch) won by 35 points over runner-up Tristan Henning (Durbanville).

A strong start was made by Rene Liebenberg (Langebaan), who posted three consecutive birdies on her first three holes in the Women’s Open section. Lee-Ann van der Merwe (Langebaan), a rising star, was one under par after nine holes, but made four bogeys in her last seven holes, ending her round with a 75, tied with Rene van der Merwe.

As a result, Rene won the women’s section on the count out procedure. Odette Booysen (Royal Cape) took third place with a score of 77.

The Women’s Medal Stableford was won by Renske Snyman (Atlantic Beach) with 29 points.

Congratulations to all the winners!
