RALPH FRANSMAN WINS THE 2026 WP SENIOR OPEN
The 2026 WP Senior Open was successfully hosted at Erinvale Golf Club.
Round 1 presented challenging playing conditions, with strong and unpredictable wind gusts testing the field throughout the day. Despite the difficult conditions, the course remained playable and the round continued without major disruption. Ralph Fransman (Somerset West) produced an outstanding opening round of 68, placing him at the top of the leaderboard and establishing an early advantage. Gerlou Roux (Bellville) also impressed with a 70, while Craig Poulton (KD Mowbray) and Robert Oosthuizen (Bellville) both carded 72s. Matthew Mills (Clovelly) opened with a 73, with Brian Mampies (Royal Cape) recording 74 and Johan Grobbelaar (Stellenbosch) a 75.
Heading into the final round, Fransman held the lead and remained composed under the pressure of the chasing field. Round 2 saw several players make significant moves, with Greg Woodbridge producing a strong 71 following his opening-round 76 to finish on 147 and secure second place overall. Johan Grobbelaar finished in third place after rounds of 75 and 72, also finishing on 147. Hennie Walters claimed fourth place with rounds of 77 and 71 for a total of 148, while Robbie Oosthuizen rounded out the top five after carding 72 in Round 1 and 76 in the final round, finishing on 148. Fransman followed his opening 68 with a solid 73, finishing on 141 to claim the 2026 WP Senior Open title at 3-under par. The championship provided a competitive and challenging two days of senior golf at Erinvale Golf Club, with the demanding conditions in Round 1 and the strong performances in the final round contributing to an exciting finish. Super Senior Division:
Brian Mampies secured the Super Senior Division title after a consistent performance over the two rounds. Craig Poulton finished in second place with a total score of 149, with the final position being decided on a count-out. Both players produced solid scores throughout the event, with Mampies finishing ahead to take the Super Senior title.
