Scratch League Finals!

 

1st League – A thrilling final unfolded between Westlake and Steenberg at Metropolitan Golf Club on Sunday, 12 November 2023.

The most notable matches were between Westlake’s No. 1 player (Brendan Mackay Leslie) and Steenberg’s No. 1 player (Pearce Lewin). A highlight of the match occurred on hole 14, when Brendan missed the green on the right hand side and ended up in the thick rough. With a 70-metre approach shot to the flag, Pearce believed he had the upper hand over his opponent. Pearce was within birdie range. The approach shot was not timed perfectly, causing the ball to balloon and not attain the appropriate distance. His ball ended up short of the green.

Brendon’s chip shot was calculated with precision, landing exactly where he anticipated and nearly making it. Pearce responded with a bump and run, barely missing the hole. The two engaged in a tussle, exchanging blows back and forth, but neither gave up. The 18th hole proved to be the deciding factor.

Brendan (Westlake) hit a spectacular tee shot one foot from the hole. Pearce (Steenberg) hit his approach in regulation, leaving him with a long downhill putt to halve the match. His birdie putt came up just short. Brendan knocked the putt in to win 1 up. Steenberg came out on top 7-1.

The best performance was by Mike Brooks (Steenberg), who defeated his opponent by 6&4.

The Super Seniors Final was intensely contested between AB Links and Rondebosch. Both clubs were fiercely competitive and threw everything they had at one another.

Both teams produced 1 point each and it was down to points count, AB Links won by 2.
