TGSE and Bishops qualify for National High Schools Final

In a tightly fought event The Golf School of Excellence (TGSE) eventually edged out Bishops by 2 shots in the WP Regional High Schools Qualifier that took place at Bellville Golf Club.

A total of 15 teams representing high schools in the Western Province participated in the event. Each team had 4 players with the best 3 scores counting towards the team total. The top 2 teams, namely TGSE and Bishops, qualified for the SA High Schools Championship taking place at Humewood on the 2nd and 3rd August.

Although the team event was a close run affair for the top two teams, there was a titanic battle for the next 3 positions – a total of only 4 shots separated them. De Kuilen High School finished 3rd, followed by Rondebosch Boys High School and then in 5th place Milnerton High School A.

Bellville Golf Club proved to be a testing layout on the day with the team from TGSE putting together 4 competitive scores – Craig Jacobs (73), Njoroge Kibugu (74), Taimur Malik (78) and Timothy Daniels (a non counting 80). The Bishops team comprised Christopher Gutuza (75), Daniel Davidson (76), Cole Crawford (76) and Sebastian Dorward (a non counting 85).

The individual honours on the day went to Craig Jacobs (TGSE) on 73 – having 5 birdies and 6 drop shots. In 2nd place was Njoroge Kibugu (TGSE) and Travis Procter (Curro Durbanville A) on 74.
