18th April 2021- A near perfect windless morning that changed to hot windy conditions in the afternoon. This is what the participants had to face in the prestigious 36 hole BFMJS#South Final at King David Mowbray Golf Club. Sadly in the distance, on the slopes of Table Mountain above the university, the devastating fire raged.

The change in weather conditions saw an average score of 2 shots worse in the afternoon – 71.7 in the morning against 73.6 in the afternoon.

Travis Procter (Durbanville) got out of the blocks quickly posting a 6 under 66 in the 1st round – 7 birdies and a lone drop at the par 4 1st hole. Travis was impeccable throughout the day from tee to green – hitting his trademark long straight drives combined with great short iron play. Two shots behind on 68 were Morris Schiefner (Fancourt CC) and John Rabie (Robertson).

An untidy triple drop at the par 4 15th spoilt a good round for Morris. His round included two eagles – at two of the par 5s, namely 6th and 10th. In fact a total of 6 eagles were racked up during the day by the 11 players. Other sub par morning rounds were recorded by Ulrich Steinhobel (Pinnacle Point) a 70, and a 71 from Jack Buchanan (Milnerton).

The afternoon did not see too much movement on the leaderboard with the majority of players holding their positions from the morning.  Megan Streicher (Swellendam), the only girl qualifier, scored a fine 71 in the afternoon which moved her up into the top 5. Travis continued where he left off in the morning, playing steady error free golf finishing on a 70 with an overall 8 under par 136 and being crowned the BFMJS#South champion for 2021.

Other notable afternoon scores were the 70s posted by Morris Schiefner (finishing 2nd) and Ulrich Steinhobel (3rd). John Rabie was counted out into 4th place.

Although the winner does not go to the USA this year to play in the prestigious Junior North and South at Pinehurst in North Carolina, the select field (winners of BFMJS Tour events) thoroughly enjoyed the occasion.

This event brings down the curtain of the 4th edition of the Bridge Fund Managers Junior Tour (BFMJS) – overall a total of 78 events and over 5700 participants!
