The 2021 WP Women’s Amateur Championship was held at Steenberg Golf Club this past week with a full field of over 100 players.

The week started with a 36 hole shotgun start for the Championships & Silver Division and the Bronze Division competed along side them completing their 18 holes in the morning.

With some home course advantage, Theresa Giurichich won the Bronze division on gross of 96 counting her into first place with Tamsen Skippers, Kuils River, being counted out into second place. Well done ladies.

The day was far from over with our Championship & Silver Division players continuing onto their second 18 holes for the day. Battling the heat and the “Master” worthy pin placements the girls completed their 36 hole stroke play in the nick of time with the sun setting in the back ground.

Representing Steenberg Golf Club, Bobbi Brown won the WP Women’s Amateur Championships and the Edith Bowie Trophy for 2021. By putting together two terrific rounds of 71 and 70 over 36 holes for a winning total of 141 a comfortable 5 shot lead over Isabella Van Rooyen, from Royal Cape Golf Club, coming second with a total of 146.

Gia Raad, Country Club Johannesburg- Woodmead, secured her 2021 win of the Silver Division and the Executive Trophy over fellow competitor, Sarah Van Lear, Royal Cape, after winning the count out on a total of 170.

The tournament didn’t end there as 8 players out of each division competed in the quarter final match play which took place early Monday morning and was followed by the semi-finals in the afternoon.

Making it through to the 2021 Match Play finals on Tuesday morning was:

Kera Healey vs Megan Streicher – Championship Division
Chloe Valin vs Jasmine Furstenburg – Flight Division
Nives Schabort vs Ashley Huysamen – Silver Division
Deidre Venter vs Zayaan Hendricks – Bronze Division

Congratulations to Kera Healey on an outstanding performance seeing her raise the 2021 Match Play Trophy.

Winning the Flight Division was Chloe Valkin def Jasmin Furstenburg 1 up. Nives Schabort def Ashley Huysamen on the 19th hole after executing a world class chip on the 18th hole forcing the playoff . Nives won the Silver Division match play. Zayaan Hendricks def Deidre Venter 2&1 making Zayaan our Bronze match play winner.
